Booking an Appointment
At Cornerways Medical Centre we offer a number of appointments with GPs, Nurse Clinicians, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and condition specific specialists.
Appointments are usually 10 minutes in duration for one medical problem only. Long term condition reviews, health checks and cervical screening appointments are 20 minutes in duration.
Patients who need clinical advice for more than one medical problem are advised to book a double appointment. We will do our best to accommodate you where possible. Surgery time is limited as the doctors have to do home visits, prescriptions, referrals and reports after surgery has finished.

Same-Day Appointments – 6 months old and over
Do you require medical advice today?
If you feel that you need to be seen by a clinician TODAY or require medical advice TODAY then we ask you to undertake an online consultation here. Our pledge to you is to get you the most appropriate medical advice you need within 3 hours or an appointment TODAY (if required).
This service is available for all patients over the age of 6 months and is open Monday to Friday from 6am to 1pm. If you are unable to complete an online consultation then we do provide a call back service in which one of our specially trained team will ask you the relevant questions and submit the online consultation on your behalf.
If you (or the person you care for) are known to us as a vulnerable patient (for example English as an additional language, learning difficulties, mental health, have a terminal illness or have a child on the child protection register) or you are requesting an appointment for a baby under 6 months then you will not be required to complete an online consultation. Please call our team as normal on 0151 902 0020 and we will accommodate your needs.
If you have an admin request (e.g. discussing recent test results, requesting sick note) then you can take an online consultation 24hrs. Please note, if you use the admin request portal after 1pm for clinical/appointment requests this will not be processed until 8am the next working day and you will not be contacted back within 3 hours.
If you have internet access
Please visit our website www.cornerwaysmedicalcentre.nhs.uk between 6am and 1pm, Monday to Friday to complete an eConsult online GP consultation.
If you are unable to complete an online consultation
If you do not have internet access or you want support completing an eConsult
Please do not worry if you are unable to go online to complete the eConsult online consultation.
Call us from 8am on 0151 902 0020, press option 2 and you’ll come through to our friendly team. Let our reception team know that you’re unable to complete an eConsult online. Our team will book in a call back as soon as possible.
A specially trained eConsult advisor will call you back and ask you the questions on the eConsult consultation. They will fill this in on your behalf. All staff are bound by confidentiality agreements and offer a discreet, understanding service.
If you do not have internet access and you don’t want to speak to an advisor
If you don’t want a call-back and you do not have internet access, you are more than welcome to come to the surgery and use one of our surgery Samsung tablets to complete your eConsult. Where possible we will provide you with a confidential side room to complete this.
What happens once an eConsult has been submitted?
You will be taken through a series of questions during the eConsult online consultation. Please answer each one honestly with all the important details.
Once submitted and received securely by your doctor, you will be sent an automated confirmation text message. Our pledge to you is that your doctor will contact you within *3 hours with the right medical advice.
*When an eConsult is submitted between 6am and 1pm Monday to Friday.
Same Day Appointments – Babies Under 6 Months
To request a same day appointment for a baby under 6 months call us on 0151 902 0020 and press option 2 to be connected to our reception team.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason then we please ask that you inform us as soon as possible in order for us to provide your appointment slot to another patient.
You can also reply to the confirmation text message the word ‘CANCEL’ to cancel your appointment or you can call us on 0151 902 0030 to let us know.
When you cancel your appointment it helps us free up the slot for someone else in need of seeing the doctor. We really appreciate you letting us know in good time that you can’t make your appointment.
If you are late
Appointments will be held for you for up to 10 mins after the time given to you. If you arrive more than 10 mins late, you will be asked to make another appointment. Please do not be offended by this; the reason that we do this is so that other patients are not kept waiting if you are late.
If you need to cancel an appointment, please inform us as soon as you know that you will not be keeping it so that your appointment can be given to another patient and will not be wasted. We have many wasted appointments each day because patients do not turn up and they do not let us know in advance so that the appointment can be given to another patient.
Preference of Practitioner
All patients are now registered with the practice and not with a specific doctor but patients may express a preference to see a particular doctor when making appointments. In the event that your preferred doctor is unavailable, the practice will offer you another doctor. If you insist upon waiting to see a specific doctor, then this will depend upon that doctor’s availability and may result in you having to wait longer than the 48 hours anticipated in the NHS Plan.
